Description
In 2014, I hired my first nanny. Nearing the end of maternity leave with my first baby, I was tired and nervous, and hoped more than anything in the world that we had found the right person to take on such a huge role in caring for our son.
In the days leading up to our nanny’s first day, I learned that we had significant tax responsibilities as her employer. (As a CPA, I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that I didn’t know that sooner!) A little research made it apparent that the process is complex and time-consuming, though it does provide important benefits for our nannies… and it’s the law! If I wanted someone to handle the tax filings for me, I could have shelled out more than $1,000 a year for an overpriced, niche payroll service. I couldn’t stomach the cost, so I wasted a lot of time trying to handle it all myself – and ended up paying a few late filing fees in the process.
Many years and multiple nannies later, I finally decided to create a service that saves families precious time and can be supported by a working parent’s budget. Let’s do the right thing, let’s pay the taxes, and let’s not spend a single wasted second thinking about them.
