COMMUNITY & RESOURCES FOR NEW & EXPECTING MAMAS!
What’s up Omies?!? Dr. Shea Kramer here, a chiropractor at Tree of Life Chiropractic in Seattle, where I specialize in taking care of mamas (preconception, prenatal and postnatal) and kiddos (but definitely not exclusive to those populations, I care for all spines)!
I love the Om Mama Co. and what it stands for- community, action, and connection. I feel like I have stumbled upon one of the best tribes available in Seattle- the support is palpable! But today I want to focus on a different kind of connection, and that is the connection within. The internal pulse. The vibration that sends messages from your brain to your body, and your body back to the brain.
Did you know that there are more nerve cells in the brain than there are stars in the Milky Way? Did you know that the brain extends down, through the top bone in the neck (the Atlas) and becomes approximately 77 trillion nerve fibers known as the spinal cord? Together, the brain and spinal cord make up our central nervous system, and branching off in between each movable bone in our spine is a spinal nerve that exits and goes to a specific organ or tissue in our body, to simply act as the pathway of communication between the brain and that body part. The coordination of every single function in our body, whether that is your heart beating, your stomach digesting food or you to be able to use your muscles to finish a great workout can be attributed to how well your brain is communicating with your body through these nerves.
I am constantly amazed at the organization and the intricacy of how our bodies function on a second by second basis. But to no avail- there is a limitation to matter. There is only so much stress that our body can take before our adaptation to stress starts to diminish. Aches and pains show up, Digestion gets a little off. Headaches become more frequent. And if we are not careful- we begin to accept these small warning signs as our ” new normal”.
But what if I told you that consistent chiropractic care is a key component to maintaining optimal nervous system function, so that our adaptation to stress is continually improving, and that these daily symptoms do not have to be your new stage 5 clinger friend?
You see, many people walk into a chiropractic office thinking that they are there to resolve neck pain and back pain. We are proud and willing to help you overcome those symptoms, but we really want to help you see the bigger picture and understand that adjusting the spine and removing the tension in the nervous system can help lead to a HEALTHIER you. Not just an in-less-pain you or more-flexibility-you, but a vibrant, strong, connected you.
With each adjustment, we peel back a layer of stress that your body has been harnessing. Maybe it’s the stress from an old sports injury, or the physical changes that pregnancy put you through, or the tension that emotional stress has put upon your body. Addressing these imbalances in your body allows for a better connection between your brain and your body so that you can function the best you can. For some people, that looks like less acid reflux and for others, that looks like better quality sleep. But for all patients, it looks like clearer connection within. I hope you know that you are worth it. Being present for yourself, your family, your circle….. is worth it. Allow yourself to explore avenues of wellness, to not just accept your state of being but to pursue optimal health.
Cheers to you, Om Mama, and cheers to a deeper connection.
